At Site–Specific : Architecture and Research, we believe that architects could play a civic role in the creation of new culture and ideas through design at various types and scales: from a door handle to a city; from large-scale architecture to pop-up art installations. The office, thus, combines architectural design with art, handicrafts, technology, and the firm belief in sustainability and lasting values. This multidisciplinary approach has allowed us to work in many sectors of design, from architecture, interior and industrial design, to digital fabrications; and at various locations in Thailand and Southeast Asia, through to Africa, Europe and North America.
Our family of full-time and part-time members have had international experiences. This, combines with the chosen location for our studio in the heart of Bangkok Old Town, reflects how we strive to incorporate global perspectives while respecting and learning from the local context. The studio has an in-house workshop committed to exploring the design process through making, integrating local techniques with computational manufacturing technologies. From this modest location, we collaborate with creators from various fields and clients from across the world to create exciting, beautiful and functional design solutions.
‘Spirit’ not ‘style’, sums up the philosophy of Site–Specific : Architecture and Research – the spirit of multidisciplinary approach; of sustainable design; of designing through making; and the collaborative mind, that would lead to the design specific to every site.
